Child Protection and Safeguarding

St Johnsbury Academy Jeju Child Protection and Safeguarding

At St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju, safeguarding is a fundamental commitment, ensuring that every student grows and learns in a secure, supportive environment where they feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of care, recognizing our responsibility to protect the well-being of all children and uphold their right to safety. Through proactive measures, we work to prevent harm, foster a culture of trust, and respond swiftly and thoughtfully to any concerns, creating a community where every child can reach their full potential.

Our safeguarding policy is aligned with both the Korean Child Welfare Act requirements and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, reflecting our dedication to global best practices in child protection. This policy outlines clear procedures to prevent and respond to any form of abuse or neglect.

Reporting Concerns

Protecting children is a shared responsibility at SJA Jeju. Any member of our community who suspects or has knowledge of abuse is required to report their concerns immediately to a Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) or the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). To ensure accessibility, anonymous reporting is available through a secure online platform. All reports are managed promptly and with strict confidentiality, following established protocols to prioritize the safety and well-being of our students.

We are dedicated to fostering a culture of vigilance and empowerment to safeguard our students. This commitment includes mandatory safeguarding training for all staff, volunteers, and vendors, ensuring everyone in our community is equipped to recognize and respond to concerns. We provide students with education on identifying and reporting potential risks, conduct comprehensive risk assessments for all activities and events, and uphold a robust code of conduct and safeguarding agreement for all employees. Together, these efforts create an environment where every child is valued, respected, and protected, reaffirming our belief in their
fundamental right to grow, learn, and thrive safely.
