Assistant Principal of Residential Life

director of residential life

Welcome to the Residential Life programme here at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju.

Choosing to place your child in residential life is a significant decision for any family. Whether your child is living away from home for the first time, or is an experienced boarder, we understand the trust you put in us. Our role goes far beyond simply providing accommodation; we are committed to creating a safe, caring and purposeful environment in which students can feel known, valued and supported.

Our programme is guided by the school’s three pillars: Character, Inquiry and Community. Through residential life, students are encouraged to develop independence, resilience, integrity and empathy. They are supported in asking thoughtful questions, exploring new interests, and becoming increasingly confident in making responsible decisions. Most importantly, students learn to live in an inclusive community, developing friendships and skills that will remain with them as they move onto university and beyond.

We believe that positive relationships are at the heart of a successful residential experience. Our residential staff work closely with students to understand their individual strengths, needs, and aspirations, whilst maintaining clear expectations and consistent routines. We also recognise that parents are essential partners in their child’s development. Open, honest, and clear communication between families and the school allow us to provide the strongest possible care and support.

Alongside dedicated study time and academic guidance, students take part in activities that promote wellbeing, leadership, creativity, service and connection. Whether they are developing a new skill, exploring Jeju, supporting the wider community, or simply spending time with friends, students are encouraged to make meaningful choices and contribute positively to residential life.

Life in our dormitories here at SJA offer students valuable opportunities to develop beyond the classroom. Our goal is to support the development of the whole student. Academic success is important, but so too are confidence, compassion, self-awareness, responsibility and a sense of belonging. We want every student to leave our programme better prepared to navigate the challenges, build healthy relationships, and contribute positively to the world around them.

It is a privilege to lead the Residential Life programme here at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju. Together with our Residential Team, I look forward to building a strong partnership with students and families, and creating a community in which every young person can thrive.

Warm Regards,
Denise Lindsay
