It is with great anticipation and excitement that we celebrate the first graduating class from St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju. Since SJA Jeju opened its doors in September 2017 this group of students has pioneered their way through the first three years of a new school towards the final date of their graduation on May 30, 2020. As the first group of students to enter SJA Jeju and graduate it has been a challenge in many ways. These students have worked diligently in a new school, in a new curriculum, with new friends and teachers, to come to this point in time where they move towards their final weeks of high school education.
As the first graduating class and the first students to apply to university from St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju, it was a nervous and unprecedented time, as there were no historical university acceptances before this group of focused students. With slight trepidation our students put out their applications to a wide variety of universities in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Australia and Hong Kong at the beginning of this school year. All students and faculty waited anxiously for the admissions decisions to roll in. The early application results were encouraging as a group of students who applied Early Action or Decision received acceptances. Universities such as Johns Hopkins University, University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, Emory University, Tufts University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, St. John’s University, and Minerva School, were a few of the universities that accepted our seniors during the early round of US university admissions. All together there were roughly 15 universities that accepted our students during the early admissions round.
A few months ago in March 2020 the regular round of university admissions results began to trickle in. Universities such as New York University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of California at Berkeley, Georgia Institute of Technology, as well as Art College acceptances at the Fashion Institute of Technology, School of Visual Arts, School of the Art Institute Chicago and Ringling College of Art and Design were accepting our students. Our seniors were very successful in their pursuit of university and college admissions this first year, having successfully been admitted into universities that best match their abilities and goals. Overall this first graduating senior class from SJA Jeju has been accepted into 26 of the top 100 universities in the United States, and accepted into 70+ universities from around the world. These results are a testament of our students’ dedication, work ethic and academic skill development during their time at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju.
We are proud of all our senior students who continue to work through their final weeks of classes here at St. Johnsbury Academy. These last few months have not been easy as students take their classes online towards the final exams and assessments in May 2020. We wish our seniors all the best as they complete their final year of high school and move on to their next educational endeavors. Congratulations seniors!
