Earth Day Celebration

On Friday, April 20th, the elementary school students at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju celebrated Earth Day.  The focus of our very first Earth Day Celebration was “Enjoy Nature”. During the event, all students from grade PreK-3 to grade 5 took some time to enjoy nature and get to know their surroundings through a Nature Scavenger Hunt.

The students used the items they collected during the hunt to make Nesting Material Dispensers and Bird Feeders for the local bird population.  The dispensers and bird feeders were made using recycled cardboard egg cartons and cardboard rolls that the students had collected over the last couple of weeks. The students hung their creations from different trees around the elementary school campus in hopes that more birds will visit the campus.

Students also pressed some of the more colorful items they collected onto clay disks.  These nature collages were used to make mobiles that will be displayed around the school.

At the end of the day, the students wrote down their wishes for the earth and tied them to the wishing trees located on the elementary school campus. The blue rocks that each student painted earlier in the day were placed around the big wishing tree located in the middle of the campus.

Ms. Isabel Heredia shared her wish, "It was a fun-filled Earth Day for all and we look forward to future Earth Day celebrations."
