Elementary Celebration of Learning

On Friday, June 15th, Elementary parents were invited into the classrooms with their children. Together, families visited learning stations set up around the classrooms. Families moved from station to station as they completed each task.

Each station was designed for parents to read the instructions and interact with their children. The students led their parents through the many different activities to explain and teach their parents what they have learned.  This may have been in the form of an activity, sharing a portfolio, sharing progress over time or explaining their work and strategies they used. The teacher was there to help facilitate, answer questions, and provide feedback on student progress.

The purpose of the Celebration of Learning was for students to feel ownership of their learning and look forward to showing their parents what they know and how they are going to improve. This also allowed for parents to get a much better sense of what was happening at school and how to continue the learning at home.  Students also felt they were part of their learning process, and this helped to build their confidence, become more self-aware and self-motivated, and to joyfully celebrate their areas of success.
