Elementary Students' Music Shows

Elementary students at SJA Jeju have been very busy in Music! On Wednesday the upper elementary students (3rd-5th grade) put on a Winter Concert in the PAC. The concert was a culmination of their work so far in music class: Each grade level sang together on stage while accompanying themselves on a huge variety of instruments, from mallet instruments to drums to ukuleles.

The 3rd grade performed the Zimbabwean tune Balafon, the round song Oh How Lovely is the Evening, and Rachel Patten's Fight Song. The 4th graders shared Stand By Me, the Christmas favorite Carol of the Bells, and their original song about Climate Change called On Our Way. The 5th graders performed Siuakudumisa from South Africa, the classic Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and Way Back Home by Shaun. Finally, all the students came together to perform Arirang, featuring students on xylophones, ukuleles, violins, flutes, trumpets, and gayageum.

Upper Elementary Music Teacher Mr. Swanson shared that he was "extremely proud of the students for all the progress they have made as instrumentalists, singers, and ensemble members-great job everyone!"

The musical excitement continued through the rest of the week as well! On Friday morning, Elementary teachers gathered in the lobby to sing carols as students arrived at school. in the afternoon, the Elementary community came together in the PAC for a Holiday Sing-a-long. Everyone enjoyed singing holiday classics like Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman. In addition, there was a special performance by the Lower Elementary students (1st--2nd grade). 1st graders shared Christmas Time is Here and Reindeer Boogie, and 2nd graders performed Santa Claus Rock.

Lower Elementary Music Teacher Ms. Johnson shared that she was "extremely proud of all of the learning and hard work that the 1st and 2nd grade students have accomplished so far this academic year. They have made enormous progress, both as musicians and SJA Jeju students!"
