Korean Independence Movement Day

The Korean Studies class at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju elementary school hosted an Independence Movement Day event to mark the 99th anniversary of Korean Independence Movement.

During the event, students learned the meaning and development of the Independence Movement Day and expressed, in their own works, the symbols of Korea: Sharon, the Korean national flag, and the national anthem.

On March 1st, fifth graders visited each elementary classroom to recreate the meaningful event by explaining the significance of each symbol on the Korean flag. They also distributed a flag to each classroom.

Myo Jung Kim, a Korean Studies teacher at SJA Jeju said, “Through the event, the students of St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju took small steps to see the world with the correct view of history. All teachers at SJA Jeju expect our students to become mature citizens with a good understanding of Korean historical facts and the Korean Independence Movement.”

The works from each grade will be displayed at the PAC for a week.
