SJA Jeju Elementary School Celebrated March Reading Month

Elementary School students of SJA Jeju kicked off the first week of March Reading Month with activities all week long in the Elementary School Library that focused on Dr. Seuss Week. Classrooms were encouraged to end this week by celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday on Friday, March 2nd.

Dress Up As Your Favorite Book Character day on Friday, March 23rd was an opportunity for students and faculty from PK3 to Grade 5 to come to school dressed up as their favorite book character. It was a fun, fabulous day where students and faculty were excited to share about their favorite book character with others.

In addition, D.E.A.R.(Drop everything and read) was a month-long reading activity that all Elementary School students participated in to celebrate March Reading Month. Every Friday throughout the month of March, all students in PK3 to Grade 5, were invited to engage in this activity called D.E.A.R. to share the joy of spontaneous reading. Students enjoyed reading in all different types of spaces from outside on the walkways, inside their classrooms, on the playground equipment and even in the Middle School and Senior School Library.

Ms. Carla Chavez, a literacy coach at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju said, “March Reading Month has been a fabulous way to highlight the joy of reading in our students' lives and I believe our activities this month have given students the opportunity to celebrate reading."
